Rishi Saluja

‘Hearing the soul within Paolo Nutini’s voice when I was about nine exposed me to something i’d never heard before. This opened up a door and led me to artists such as Melody Gardot, James Brown and Stevie Wonder.’ Along with the influence of soul, Rishi is also inspired by folk music from the likes of Laura Marling, Nick Drake and by the more alternative, Jeff Buckley. ‘All of the music I am inspired by seems to be honest and that’s something I try and carry through in all my writing. My music taste is eclectic which is something I value greatly because how can you make original music if you’ve only listened to one paricular style/genre? For me, the more I expose myself to, the more musical ideas I attain.’
